L'Ukraine condamnée pour l'incarcération "arbitraire" de Ioulia Timochenko

La Cour européenne des droits de l'homme a condamné mardi la détention de l'ancien premier ministre ukrainien Ioulia Timochenko.

La Cour européenne des droits de l'homme (CEDH) a donné raison mardi l'ancien Premier ministre ukrainien, Ioulia Timochenko, emprisonnée depuis 2011, en estimant l'unanimité "arbitraire et illégal" son placement en détention provisoire.

Les juges de Strasbourg ont condamné l'Ukraine pour quatre violations des droits fondamentaux de Ioulia Timochenko, mais ont en revanche rejeté le grief portant sur les mauvais traitements allégués par l'opposante.

L'ancienne chef du gouvernement, avait été jugée coupable d'abus de pouvoir, condamnée sept ans de prison et une interdiction d'exercer des fonctions officielles pendant trois ans. Ioulia Timochenko aurait signé des accords gaziers avec la Russie défavorables son pays. "Ces accords ont eu des conséquences lourdes pour Naftogaz, d'un montant de 1,5 milliard de hryvnia" soit quelque 140 millions d'euros, avait estimé le juge qui avait prononcé la peine.
